Black Friday, Black Heroes

Following the negative backlash against African-Americans in the wake of the 2014 protests in Ferguson, MO, and out of a desire to protest the materialism of Black Friday, Black Friday, Black Heroes was a collaborative effort in which a group of artists produced 50+ portraits of black heroes. The portraits were posted across St. Louis on Black Friday (the day following Thanksgiving) as a way of showing gratitude for the contributions of African-Americans to America's culture and development. Portraits produced for the project went on to be shown at the CultureWorks Institute for Creative Arts in Holland, MI in an exhibition titled, "Artist responses to #BlackLivesMatter."
